THIS IS AN UNTITLED PROJECT
BY CARMEN CAMPOS
During the quarantine of the 2020, due to the impossibility of leaving, the lack of stimulation and the crisis of creativity that I faced; I began to review old ideas, especially the "failed attempts". What I discovered was a folder full of analogue photographs, which I had discarded because at the time I was told they were not valid, or that I myself thought they were a failure because they were far from the academic perfection I had been taught.
Looking at them again, from a much wider perspective, I have realized that all those failures, all those veiled or dusty reels, are the ones that show an essential part of me as an artist and how I perceive reality. I still have that feeling of failure with many of them, so I keep intervening them with the purpose of bringing out everything I have inside me and prove myself that precisely those photos I fight so much with and, even I hate, are the ones that show the most who I am and how I feel.
Those photographs, experimental and out of the margins to which I had to stick, made with broken plastic cameras, are the ones that are part of this endless project entitled An Untitled Project; a project in which my intention is not only to reflect on photography as a slave of beauty, moving away from that "perfect photograph", but also to establish a dialogue with myself and with the viewer about the importance of mistakes and how we face them in order to grow up.
