WHO AM I?

Hi!

I'm Carmen. I was born in Malaga, Spain, on the hottest day of July 96. I love cloudy days and

going for walks when it's raining; I could exclusively feed on any kind of potato and I can't take a shower without background music.

Since I was a child I had a great interest in art and all its forms. I wanted to be a musical actress, an archeologist, a fashion designer, an art historian, an architect…  but none of those things came to fruition.

One day I was given a 35mm camera and from  that moment on I haven't stopped taking pictures.

I studied photography at the Escuela de Arte San Telmo, Malaga, which helped me to develop an introspective style,

with which I can express myself without fear.

In my photographs, landscapes predominate, which I define as self-portraits, parts of my own being. I work mainly

in black and white which, far from being purely aesthetic, is a reflection of what is going on inside my mind, as most of my memories have no color. I can remember smells and even textures, but many specific memories of my life are colorless, and that makes me relive them even more vividly. For me the elimination of color is a way to capture the true essence of things and not remain on the mere surface.

Although I have just started, as they say, I have been lucky enough to collaborate in different collective and

individual exhibitions such as:

- The San Telmo School; Tapería Babel, Málaga (2017)

- El arte como referente: Fotografía pictórica; Ateneo de Málaga (2018)

- Paisaje, memoria e identidad; Ateneo de Málaga (2018)

- La Mirada Femenina; Alcazaba, Málaga (Noche en Blanco, 2018)

- To part in Estival; as selected fot La Ventana de La Casa Amarilla (2018)

- Narrativas femeninas; Ateneo de Málaga (2018)

- Premios Ateneo UMA de fotografía y grabado; selected as finalist, Ateneo de Málaga (2018)

- Paisaje, memoria e identidad; Festival Eutopía, Cordoba (2018)

- Narrativas femeninas, visiones subjetivas; Sala de exposiciones de EA San Telmo, Málaga (2018)

- Ars Visibilis IV.

- Hybridas, with La Casa Amarilla, Hybrid Art Fair, Madrid (2019)

- V Fair Art & Breakfast with Escuela Apertura de Fotografía, Málaga (2019)

- Natur; La Casa Amarilla, Málaga (2019)

- Piñavidad; La Casa Amarilla, Málaga (2019)

- Memorias Distorsionadas; La Ventana Amarilla, La Casa Amarilla, Málaga (2020)

- Ángeles Caídas; Sala Mignorance del Archivo Municipal, Málaga (2020)

- Réquiem, An Untitled Project; El Último Mono Juice & Coffee, Málaga (2020)

In early 2020, I finished my first solo project: Memorias Distorsionadas, a photobook that was accompanied by an exhibition at La VentanaAmarilla de La Casa Amarilla, Málaga (2020).

At the moment I am developing AN UNTITLED PROJECT, a project that I started during the quarantine, in which I have compiled all those analogical photographs that "had gone wrong" and had ended up in the discard folder. Now I am giving them all a second life to bring them together in a photobook and exhibition that will take place at La Casa Amarilla, Malaga, in April 10th 2021.

Since 2018 I am an active part of the project La Casa Amarilla Málaga, as an artist in residence and collaborator in the coordination and communication, as well as part of the creative team of EAmalaga together with Sara Sarabia. I also do freelance work in the fields of photography, video and social media. I am still training academically, self-taught in the audiovisual field and, on the other hand, I will start a double degree in Travel Agency and Event Management and Tourist Guide at the Escuela de Turismo Costa del Sol in 2021. Something that makes me especially excited, since everything related to travel has always been one of my greatest passions.

I don't know where I'll be in 10 years, or what I'll be doing in five, but I can tell that my biggest goal in life

is to better myself with every step I take. I want to keep growing as an artist and as a person, and may the wind

take me where it has to take me :).
